“Cost – time and radiation reduction with nailing system – an innovative solution for distal locking” – Sanatmetal-EFORT webinar

During the online course, Prof. Endre Varga (University of Szeged, Hungary) and Prof. Norbert Wiegand (University of Pécs, Hungary) will deal with the problems of distal locking and share their professional experiences in connection with the innovative MAGIC targeting system. An international co-chair will also take part in the webinar, by representing EFORT.
The topic of distal locking has been an actual issue within medical health care, since- in terms of data* – approximately 251 out of 100 thousand people need a nail implant (humerus, femur, tibia) in the European Union, which means almost 1.000.000. surgeries per year of the entire population. Due to the ageing population and osteoporosis, the number of fractures will increase by nearly four times by 2050, therefore only for the trochanter region 6.26 million cases are predicted The average surgical time of a medullary nail is 60-90 minutes, during the operation you need to find 2-3 locking holes under X-rays, which can take 3-5 minutes per hole depending on the surgeon’s practice, meanwhile, the operator and the operating staff are exposed to radiation an effective dose limit of 20mSv per year).
